An insane collaboration between Dame Dash and The Black Keys. Recorded within 11 days, Dame Dash was able to bring a lot of credible hip-hop artists to the table ranging from RZA, Mos Def, Q-Tip to Ludacris.
I highly doubt that this will stay on for long, so get to it fast.
“Any life, no matter how long and complex it may be, is made up of a single moment - the moment in which a man finds out, once and for all, who he is." -Jorge Luis Borges
This has to be the ultimate 'Bohemian Rhapsody' cover (ever), performed by the whole cast of the Muppet Show. If you're going to watch one youtube video today, make it this one.
Slug and Murs are back together as Felt! Oh, yes. They could have not chosen a better person to dedicate their album to. ROSIE PEREZ! (Felt dedicate each of their albums to various actresses. Previously: Christina Ricci and Lisa Bonet) I'm totally psyched.
Raised in the Athens Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, Cle "Bone" Sloan was four years old when his father died, and 12 when he became a member of the Bloods. Now an inactive member of the notorious gang, Sloan looks back at the history of black gangs in his city and makes a powerful call for change in modern gang culture with his insightful documentary, BASTARDS OF THE PARTY.
The 411: In a way, Merry Clayton did not really cover this awesome Rolling Stones song as she provided the back-up vocals for the original version with Mick Jagger. I prefer this more soulful rendition though. Also, Clayton's voice is heard on Lynrd Skynrd's "Sweet Home Alabama". Very nice? Yes.
This goes to show that I was not wrong in stating that 'The Wire' is one of the best TV Shows ever, in a post earlier this year. Students of Harvard University can now take class credits for watching 'The Wire'. The show will be used as a case study to properly understand poverty and inequality in urban neighborhoods.
The California Assembly and Senate recently unanimously approved Assembly Bill 1176 to help the port of San Francisco with financing issues. But Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has decided to veto the legislation, sending a letter to the state Assembly chastising them for focusing on “unnecessary bills.” The San Francisco Bay Guardian also notes a second, more direct, message hidden in Schwarzenegger’s missive — contained in the first letter of each line:
...you need to slow down with these damn collabos. It's getting pretty damn annoying and hard to keep up with all your stuff. Not to mention what it does to your street cred. lol.
At the beginning of the summer I set out to watch all of Sasha Grey's 5 favourite movies. I was intrigued by her selection, she seems to be a real movie connoisseur in Foreign Films (plus points). Long story short, I failed, not a single movie seen although I have most at hand. For those interested, here's the list:
Recently finished reading "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. It's a wonderfully well written novel about a girl who is murdered by an estranged neighbour and goes on telling her story of how she was murdered. From heaven, yes heaven, she follows the lives of her friends and family on how they each cope with the loss of losing a daughter, sister or friend.
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is the director for the motion picture version starring Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon which is set to come out later this year.
